Hot Chamber Die Casting in 2020

Hot-chamber Die Casting. The die casting industry has established itself in different fields of application including electronics, and the automotive industry. Die casting is basically the casting of molten metal with the use of dies of  different shapes.  The molding is done by the application of force within the dies and ejecting the molded shape as it solidifies.  There are basically two types of die casting: the hot chamber method, and the cold chamber method.

Hot chamber die casting is a zinc die casting method wherein ingots of zinc are melted in a furnace.  The melting temperature of the metal has to be achieved within the furnace in order for the metal to be totally melted.  The hot chamber die casting method requires the molten zinc to remain inside the furnace as a shot sleeve retrieves a part of the molten metal and injects it into the set of dies with the specified shape.  The molten metal remains in the dies until it solidifies.  Once it cools down, the shaped metal is ejected out of the dies, or taken out manually.  The cooling and solidification process usually takes just around 2-5 seconds, depending on the size of the shaped part, and the efficiency of the machine used.

The hot chamber die casting method has been frequently used over the cold chamber method as it implies a faster way of die casting metals.  The rate at which metals can be shaped is an important factor that affects the performance and capacity of the die casting machine.
